Questions to Ask Your Doctor
This abridged list of questions appeared in an article from Scientific American entitled "Living With Cancer."

"No. 1 rule: do not be cowed by your doctor. Ask him or her to explain you don't understand. Prepare questions in advance of appointments (to reduce stress and the odds of forgetting any)--and bring a notebook to jot down answers and other important info. Below are some questions you should ask:

__ What lifestyle changes do you recommend?
__ What are my treatment options?
__ Are there activities that should be avoided because they might trigger or exacerbate symptoms?
__ What happens if new symptoms crop up or existing ones worsen?
__ What stage is my cancer? What does that mean?
__ What is my overall prognosis or chance of recovery?
__ How often will I have to undergo treatment--and for how long?
__ What are the benefits versus the risks of each treatment option?
__ What are the expected results of treatment?
__ Am I eligible for any clinical trials?
__ Where can I find emotional, psychological, and spirtitual support?
__ Whom can I call with questions or concerns after office hours?
__ May I contact you or a nurse if I have a question or more symptoms? (If the answer is 'no,' find another doctor.)"

You should also ask your doctor how many pancreatic cancer patients they have worked with, what their oncology experience is, what is their methodology (or way of thinking and approaching) cancer treatment, etc.
